Summary
Follow these steps to remove an airlock in the hot water
system:
1 Connecting a hose to the hot water system
2 Connecting a hose to the main supply
3 About persistent problems
Tools
Length of Hose
Step 1 - Connecting a hose to the hot water system
An airlock in the hot water system will sometimes
occur when the system has been partially drained.
It can also occur after running a large bath.
Attach a hosepipe to the tap giving the trouble
or if this is difficult attach it to the nearest
hot water tap.
Step 2 - Connect Hose to Mains Fed Tap
The pressure from the mains will normally be enough
to cure the problem. Attach the other end of the hose
to a mains-fed tap. Turn on the faulty tap. Turn on
the mains fed tap. The bubbles will then be blown
from the pipe by the water pressure.
Step 3 - About persistent problems
If your main cold water cistern holds less than
it may need replacing. If the cistern is not filling
up quickly enough when water is extracted, replace
the ball valve, which works in the same way as the
ball valve in a toilet.
